$140,000 and a new vision for the future of Nelson Bay

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer has today unveiled a fresh new identity for the future of Nelson Bay, with the launch of Nelson Bay Next.

The Nelson Bay Next brand has been developed by Port Stephens Council to help showcase all of the exciting projects and initiatives, led either by Council or the community, that are happening in the Nelson Bay town centre.

Mayor Ryan Palmer says he’s excited to share Nelson Bay Next, a brand that personifies the potential and aspirations of Nelson Bay, with the local community.

“Nelson Bay is an iconic, unique and truly beautiful coastal village, but it has stagnated. Whether you’ve lived here most of your life, like me, or you’re a more recent addition to our community, I think we all agree that something has to change,” Mayor Palmer said.

“Nelson Bay Next is a positive, upbeat, optimistic and dynamic campaign, and it’s a way for us all to focus on the exciting future of our town and to drive positive change together. I can’t wait to see how the people of Nelson Bay get behind this new campaign.”

“We know that as a Council, we need to get better at communicating what’s happening in the Bay – particularly the outcomes of the Nelson Bay strategy – and Nelson Bay Next is also a great way to do just that,” he said.

At today’s launch, the Hon. Taylor Martin MLC also announced Council’s successful receipt of public domain funding for Nelson Bay through the 2017/2018 Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure grant program to the tune of $70,000, which is matched dollar for dollar by Council.

“This funding from the NSW Government Department of Industry will be invaluable in stimulating the visitor economy in and around Nelson Bay. It will help us drive demand, improve quality and increase tourism expenditure in our beautiful town,” Mayor Palmer said.

“The public domain works are just part of what will fall in line with the Nelson Bay Next campaign.

“We want everyone to get excited about what’s possible, what’s happening and most importantly, what’s next,” he added.

The draft ‘Progressing the Nelson Bay Town Centre & Foreshore Strategy: A revised Implementation and Delivery Program 2017’ is also on public exhibition from today for an extended six week period, closing Wednesday 4 April 2018.
